Everything old is new again
It just occurred to me today as I was lugging my reusable grocery bags into the store (and feeling righteous about remembering them), that my mother used to do this very thing. And it would embarrass the hell out of me when I was kid, because nobody else did it then. She was the only one with canvas totes and expandable string bags, and when she gave them to the bagger, who inevitably looked at her like "What the hell are these, lady?" (unless we were at the health-food store), I used to slink away and pretend to be looking at something in another aisle. My mom was totally ahead of her time -- and she didn't even say "I told you so" when she gave me a Red Sox resuable bag last Christmas.
